As an independent bookshop we are passionate about supporting authors, including those represented by smaller publishers or those who are self-published. If you’d like us to consider your book for our stock, we ask that you follow our Author Submission Guidelines.

Due to the large number of queries we receive, we will not accept in-shop submissions and kindly ask authors to email us at info@themargatebookshop.com following these steps:

-        Please include "Author Submission Request" in the subject line – this will ensure your email doesn’t get lost in our inbox.

-        Please provide a brief description of the work and include an image of the book cover. Where relevant (e.g. photography books), please include a couple of inside spreads.

-        Please include the retail price of the book and details regarding where we can order stock from.

-        If you think your book should be stocked in our bookshop, please show that you’ve done some research and are familiar with the types of books we sell, particularly if you are a local author.

All submissions that follow these guidelines will be considered for inclusion in the shop but as our space is limited we will prioritise local authors. Books that are available on Gardners are also more likely to be given a place on our shelves. Our curation is one of the strongest elements of The Margate Bookshop; we give great importance to print quality and presentation and these are decisive elements when reviewing potential stock.

We aim to reply to all requests within six weeks, as we make time to sit down and give your book our full attention. Please do not send us follow up emails. We are a very busy bookshop run by a very small team and as such are not able to provide in depth feedback for every submission.

Event Pitches

The Margate Bookshops runs book talks and events all year-round. We are open to pitches from both publishers and authors.

For authors contacting us: Please only contact us about organising an event if we already stock your book. Otherwise please refer to the Author Submission Guidelines to submit your work for consideration.
