CLIMBING DAYS WITH DAN RICHARDS | MONDAY, 15 JULY 2024

Writer Dan Richards pays his respects to the intrepid life of pioneering mountaineer Dorothy Pilley and the brand new edition of her 1935 memoir Climbing Days, in conversation with Katherine May

7:00pm-9:00pm Tom Thumb Theatre

A long-lost classic of 1920s mountaineering literature; Dorothy Pilley's memoir Climbing Days charts her many adventures and achievements in a sport that was, at the time, seen as the province of men.

Celebrating a revamped new edition of the book, Dorothy's great-great-nephew, writer Dan Richards, salutes Dorothy's life and legacy, from her daredevil climbs to the ways she energised and enabled her fellow women climbers. Dan will be chatting to Katherine May (Wintering, Enchantment) about storytelling, heroism, setbacks and obsession; as they ask each other what it takes to go out and face the world, and what it means to be 'ardently alive'.

Entry is free but please RSVP via Eventbrite to guarantee a space.
