NANCY CAMPBELL: THUNDERSTONE
THURSDAY, 6 APRIL 2023
Nancy Campbell reads from and discusses her beautifully poetic, raw and intimate new book, Thunderstone – a true story of losing one home and discovering another
7.00pm-9.00pm Fort Road Bar, Fort Road Hotel
After a tumultuous and traumatic lockdown, Nancy Campbell was ready to embrace The Future. She had aided her partner in recovery from a serious stroke. She had overcome the end of that relationship and navigated her own illnesses and uncertainties. Then, in desperate need of change, she bought an old caravan, placing it on a strip of woodland in between a railway line and a canal, and began her own journey towards recuperation, solace and hope. Thunderstone is the story of "the people and the places that hold us when the storms gather," of the unconventional friendships and resilience that grows in off-grid communities.
We’ll be in conversation with Nancy, celebrating the paperback publication of the book.
Entry is free but please RSVP to info@themargatebookshop.com to guarantee a space.
Nancy Campbell writes poetry, essays and non-fiction. A series of residencies with Arctic research institutions between 2010 and 2017 led to books including The Library of Ice, How To Say ‘I Love You’ In Greenlandic: An Arctic Alphabet and Fifty Words for Snow. A memoir set closer to home, describing a summer of love, loss and vintage caravans, Thunderstone, was published last year.
